Humidity Factsheet
Guitars built with solid wood are sensitive to environmental humidity. Keep instruments in a stable environment to avoid structural movement and setup changes.
Recommended Range
- Maintain 45% to 55% relative humidity (RH).
- Keep temperature changes gradual whenever possible.
- Use a calibrated hygrometer in your room and in your case.
If Humidity Is Too Low (<40% RH)
- Top and back can shrink or crack.
- Frets may protrude (fret sprout).
- Neck relief and action can change quickly.
If Humidity Is Too High (>60% RH)
- Top and back may swell.
- Action can rise and intonation may drift.
- Long-term structural stress may increase.
Best Practices
- Store your instrument in its case when not in use.
- Use case humidification or room humidification during dry seasons.
- Avoid direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
- Schedule seasonal setup checks.
